This bill is aimed to help Oklahoman landowners protect Oklahoma farmlands and wildlife habitat.
Why is this important?
America’s farmlands and wildlife habitat are being destroyed across the nation at alarming rates. Farmers and conservationist are fighting to save their homes and lands from solar and wind farms to city sprawl to roadway expansions.
More farmland means the more food available for consumers and cheaper prices at the market. More wildlife areas ensure that we are able to pass down our outdoor heritage to our children and grandchildren.
What does the bill do?
SB163 adds a clause to Oklahoma laws for properties participating in Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation programs, that ensures the investment made by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and the landowner of said properties are protected from other entities taking the property through the right of eminent domain.
SB1632 sadly never got out of committee in the 2024 legislative session due to my late start and the time to get the proper language. We will continue to advocate for this bill’s suggested amended form next session so please continue to let your legislators know you want the suggested amended bill next year in 2025. Thanks for all those who have called and continue to call!
And a special thank you to Senator Mary Boren for getting this bill started for us.
